"Appealing workplaces are to be avoided. One wants a room with no view, so imagination can meet memory in the dark." ~ Annie DillardThe office does not matter. In fact, I agree that a simple room with no view is the best. It's difficult to activate the imagination in an environment with too much stimulation.
I admit that before I started writing full time, I often thought I'd be a best-selling writer in a minute if I could write in my fantasy office that overlooked the ocean.
Well, I'm writing full time, but my office doesn't overlook the ocean. Rather, it overlooks Bugsy and Knuckles' cat food dishes. And, I'm not disappointed. You see, I've come to realize that I don't need to have a fancy office or view to dream up what to write. It's all in my mind, so I have the cheapest ocean view in Florida. I just throw up an image on the computer screen and write to my heart's content.
